Monaco police have extended the detention of a man arrested in connection with the death of Antoine de Massy, the 29-year-old second cousin of Prince Albert II, whose body was found in the Larvotto district on Sunday evening, October 25. The suspect will remain in custody for a further 24 hours while investigators pursue their enquiries, with all possible explanations for the death still under consideration, Monaco-Matin reports.

De Massy, a member of Monaco’s extended Princely Family, was reportedly seen falling from the voie rapide into the gardens of the 21 Princesse Grace residence. His body was discovered in a park below Boulevard du Larvotto after his family raised the alarm when he failed to attend a family lunch earlier that day.

An investigation was opened to establish the cause of death and entrusted to Monaco’s judicial police. A man identified through CCTV footage was arrested on Monday morning after investigators established that he had come into contact with de Massy while the latter was still alongside the boulevard.

Monaco’s Prosecutor General said the man’s detention had been extended to allow investigators to carry out interviews and technical enquiries. The authorities have emphasised that he remains a suspect and that his involvement in the circumstances surrounding the death has not been established.

Investigators are continuing to examine the evidence, with the possibility of an accidental death among the scenarios being considered. The precise circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
