Monégasque tennis player Hugo Nys and his French partner Édouard Roger-Vasselin were eliminated from the US Open men’s doubles tournament on Tuesday, September 8, falling in the round of 16 to the pairing of Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6.
The pair had entered the tournament as the 12th seeds, with the 2026 US Open running from August 23 to September 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
Andreozzi and Guinard mounted a notable recovery to seal the win, dropping the opening set in a tiebreak before fighting back to take the second set 6-4 and close out the match with a commanding 7-1 run in the deciding tiebreak.
The result sends Andreozzi and Guinard through to a quarterfinal meeting with Finland’s Harri Heliövaara and Britain’s Henry Patten, who beat Francisco Cabral and JJ Tracy 6-4, 6-4 on the same day.
For Nys and Roger-Vasselin, the pair had entered the second week in good form, having beaten the same Andreozzi-Guinard partnership on multiple occasions already this season, including a win in Washington just weeks earlier at the end of July. That recent record made Tuesday’s result a particularly tight and closely contested defeat, ultimately decided in the finest of margins.
