Monaco’s construction company ENGECO S.A.M. has issued a press release responding to reports surrounding the incident at the prestigious La Petite Afrique residence, which occurred on 22 July. According to the company, several inaccurate statements circulated following the incident. ENGECO states that the building itself did not move and that its structural integrity was never compromised…
The company further explains that the crack, measuring less than 1.5 cm, appeared in a wall that does not form part of the building’s main structural system, describing it as an isolated defect.
On 22 July, all occupants of the building were evacuated as a precaution following the incident. Access to the residence remained restricted for more than a week while remedial works and safety assessments were carried out.
The works were initially expected to be completed by last Monday. However, the scope of the intervention was subsequently extended on Thursday 30 of July, delaying the reopening. As a result, residents were unable to return to their homes until yesterday.
ENGECO states that the remedial works were carried out without delay and confirms that all occupants have now been authorised to return to the building.
In its statement, the company also regrets that what it describes as alarmist and technically unfounded information was circulated without prior verification, arguing that such reports generated unnecessary concern and caused reputational damage.
The statement represents the constructor’s official position on the incident. It follows the evacuation of all occupants on 22 July and the closure of the building for more than a week while repairs and safety checks were completed.
