Monaco and Slovenia have marked 20 years of formal diplomatic relations with a series of high-level meetings in Ljubljana, highlighting two decades of growing cooperation and setting the stage for closer collaboration in the years ahead…
The anniversary was celebrated with an event attended by around 200 guests, including government ministers from both countries. Monaco was represented by Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister of Equipment, Environment and Urban Planning, whilst Slovenia’s ministers for Foreign Affairs and the Environment also took part. The ceremony featured performances by the Little Singers of Monaco (Les Petits Chanteurs de Monaco), who are currently on a European tour.
Speaking during the visit, Monaco’s Ambassador to Italy and Slovenia, Anne Eastwood, said the anniversary provided an opportunity not only to celebrate the friendship between the two nations but also to strengthen ties following Slovenia’s recent legislative elections. Although differing greatly in size, she noted that both countries share common priorities, including sustainable development, environmental protection, innovation, tourism and quality of life.
Discussions throughout the day focused on exchanging expertise in these areas, with delegates comparing approaches to issues such as waste management, energy transition and sustainable urban development.
The visit also delivered a tangible economic outcome, with the Monaco Economic Board signing a Memorandum of Understanding with its Slovenian counterpart to encourage greater business cooperation and facilitate commercial links between companies in both countries.
Alongside institutional representatives, Monaco’s delegation included Monaco Invest, MonacoTech, the Prince Albert II Foundation, SMEG, the Tourism and Convention Authority and several Monegasque entrepreneurs. Panel discussions on innovation, tourism, sport and sustainability concluded the programme, reinforcing both countries’ commitment to sharing best practices and developing future partnerships.
