Animal welfare remains a central priority for the Monaco SPA, which has unveiled newly completed improvements at its shelter in Peille…
Inaugurated on April 29 by HSH Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène, President of the organisation, the upgraded facilities mark a significant step forward in enhancing living conditions for the animals in its care.
Supported by the Princely Government, the National Council and private donors, the project introduces a range of thoughtful enhancements. These include three outdoor parks where dogs can move freely, a retractable canopy to improve light within kennels, raised partitions to reduce stress between animals, and greener indoor spaces. A dedicated “cat lounge” has also been created to encourage socialisation among the shelter’s feline residents.
The visit, attended by Princess Stéphanie and members of the Princely Family, also paid tribute to Princess Antoinette, founder of Monaco’s first animal shelter, with the unveiling of a commemorative bust. Her legacy continues to shape the organisation’s mission.
Currently caring for around 30 dogs and 40 cats, many rescued from abandonment or mistreatment, the SPA relies on a strong network of volunteers who support daily operations, including regular walks.
Looking ahead, the shelter aims to become a welcoming hub for the community, promoting adoption, awareness and meaningful interaction between people and animals.
