Home to almost 450 animals representing around 70 species, the park is undergoing a carefully managed transition. Some animals are being temporarily relocated within the grounds to allow construction work to begin, while around 20 have already been transferred to the Natura enclosure, where specialist teams are overseeing their welfare.
According to staff, animal wellbeing remains the project’s highest priority throughout the works, which are expected to continue over several years.
The redevelopment will see almost every part of the park modernised, with the exception of the relatively new hippopotamus area and lagoon. Rather than expanding the collection, the focus is on creating larger, more natural habitats for the animals already in the park.
Visitors can also expect a completely redesigned route through the site, featuring more shaded areas, immersive educational displays and exhibits highlighting wildlife conservation. The revamped park will also provide space for conservation organisations to showcase their work and raise awareness of environmental issues.
While many details remain under wraps, officials say the project is designed to create a better experience for both animals and future visitors.
