The escalators serving the Léo Ferré parvis and the Animal Garden in Fontvieille have been recommissioned and reopened to the public on April 21, 2026, following a programme of replacement works…

The previous installations, which had become worn over time, have been upgraded to improve reliability and day-to-day functionality for users.

The new systems incorporate a range of technical enhancements designed to reduce service interruptions and simplify maintenance. Notably, they are equipped with an automatic restart function in the event of an emergency stop caused by accidental activation, ensuring quicker resumption of service. The updated design also allows for more efficient servicing, requiring fewer interventions and minimising downtime.

In addition, a dynamic LED lighting system has been integrated into the escalators, providing clear visual guidance by indicating the direction of movement. This feature is intended to improve safety and ease of use for pedestrians navigating the area.

Through these upgrades, the Princely Government continues its efforts to enhance mobility infrastructure across the Principality, improving pedestrian flow and accessibility for residents and visitors in this busy part of Fontvieille.
