The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco welcomed visitors young and old for a special day dedicated to ocean protection…

As part of its annual museum festival, guests enjoyed a packed programme of shows, workshops, and interactive games designed to raise awareness about marine conservation in an engaging way on June the 28th. Organised for the fifth time by the Friends of the Oceanographic Museum, the event transformed the institution into a playful yet educational environment.

Children learned skills such as tying sailor’s knots and identifying coastal animals, while other activities focused on art, recycling, and scientific observation. Inside the aquariums, a drawing workshop encouraged children to study different fish species and recreate them with colour, mirroring scientific illustration techniques. The museum partnered with local organisations, including SES Monaco and CESMM, to enrich the offering with sporty and ecological workshops, all under the theme of ocean preservation.

For many families, these lessons reinforced habits taught at home, like sorting waste for recycling. Little Eva, one of the young visitors, summed up the day’s key message simply: “When someone puts things in the sea, the little fish can die. You have to throw them in the trash.” Her words captured the spirit of the event, which aimed to instil protective behaviours from an early age.

Before leaving, visitors took a final moment to marvel at the beauty of underwater life, a reminder of what is at stake and why Monaco continues to champion the preservation of the oceans for future generations.
