Dr Jean-Joseph Pastor passed away on Thursday, April 3, at the Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco at the age of 93.
A prominent figure in Monaco’s medical sector, Dr Pastor co-founded the Monaco Cardiothoracic Center in 1987 alongside Professor Vincent Dor. He remained active at the facility, maintaining an office there until his final days.
In addition to his contributions to healthcare, Dr Pastor served as Prince Rainier III’s personal physician from 1975 until the prince’s death in 2005. His medical career also included establishing the cardiology department at the Princess Grace Hospital in the 1960s.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Pastor was involved in Monaco’s political sphere, serving as a national councillor from 1968 to 2008, including a decade as vice-president of the institution.
