Emmanuel-Philibert of Savoy, pretender to the Italian throne, is set to bring a taste of Italy to Monaco with the upcoming opening of his restaurant, ‘Prince of Venice’. The prince, known for his passion for Italian gastronomy, announced the exciting news on Instagram on Sunday, January 5. The new eatery will be located at 39 Boulevard du Jardin Exotique in Monaco, marking the latest expansion of his culinary ventures.
Since launching the Prince of Venice food truck and restaurant in Los Angeles in 2020, Emmanuel-Philibert has been devoted to sharing authentic Italian flavours. Now, with plans to open a branch in the Mediterranean city-state, the prince is adding another chapter to his gastronomic journey.
Monaco holds special significance for Emmanuel-Philibert, not just as a close neighbour to Italy but as a place of personal connections. A longtime friend of HSH Prince Albert II, Emmanuel-Philibert credits the Monegasque sovereign for introducing him to his wife, actress Clotilde Courau, in the early 2000s. The bond between the two princes was further solidified in 2003, when Prince Albert served as Emmanuel-Philibert’s best man at his wedding in Rome.
In a 2021 interview with Point de Vue, Emmanuel-Philibert reflected on the night he first met Clotilde during a gathering hosted by HSH Prince Albert. “We were seated at the same table. I was sitting next to her, stealing glances, and looking for Johnny Hallyday’s approval. He gave me a wink,” he recounted with a smile.
The soon-to-open Monaco location of Prince of Venice promises to bring the same charm and culinary excellence as its Los Angeles counterpart. Diners can expect an array of Italian dishes, including pasta and the Roman specialty “pinsa.” While the exact opening date remains under wraps, anticipation is already building.
