St Paul’s Anglican Church in Monte Carlo hosted its annual 9 Lessons and Carols service on Sunday, December 15, with Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert and Princess Charlene in attendance. The church was filled to capacity, with attendees standing to partake in the cherished Christmas tradition.

The service began with an address by the chaplain, Father Hugh, who emphasised the importance of Christian love in a troubled world and offered prayers for global peace. The readings, recounting the Christmas story, were delivered by members of the church family and His Excellency Monsignor Dominique-Marie David, Archbishop of Monaco.

Music played a central role in the celebration, with the congregation singing beloved carols alongside sacred pieces performed by the church choir. Under the direction of Errol Girdlestone, the choir delivered works by composers such as Rutter, Jacques, Willcocks, Cornelius, and Britten. A highlight of the evening was a deeply moving performance of Minuit Chrétiens by soprano Felicity Murphy, a member of the St Paul’s community.

The evening concluded with a Benediction, followed by a joyful gathering in the English Library. Guests enjoyed refreshments prepared by the Church Council and shared laughter and fellowship, marking the event as a memorable celebration of the Christmas spirit.
