the Municipality of Monaco officially launched the 7th edition of the Junior Municipal Project (Projet Communal Junior – PCJ) during a Public Session on Tuesday, December 17, reaffirming its commitment to fostering youth engagement in the Principality.
Three student representatives from last year’s 4ème 12 class at Collège Charles III, now in their final year, presented their innovative proposals to the Municipal Council in a new, dynamic pitch format designed to persuade officials to adopt their ideas.
The PCJ provides a unique platform for middle school students to brainstorm, design, and advocate for projects that benefit their local community. The program unfolds in two stages: A first year dedicated to brainstorming and collaboration under the guidance of their teacher, and a second year focused on implementing the selected projects with the support of elected officials and Municipal Services.
Since its inception in 2012, the PCJ has involved 120 students and led to the realization of 12 impactful projects, enriching Monaco’s communal activities. These initiatives include popular events like the Splash Party, Halloween Party, and the Street Art Challenge Junior, alongside innovative workshops such as Abracada’bricks, which recently engaged 100 children aged 8-12, while 250 teenagers participated in the latest Splash Party.
Deputy Mayor Chloé Boscagli-Leclercq, Delegate for Youth, emphasised the importance of the program, stating: “The PCJ is a wonderful collaboration between youth, municipal services, and elected officials. Together, we create tangible projects that inspire our young people to value civic engagement and the role of municipal institutions.”
The Municipal Council also extended its gratitude to the students, Collège Charles III, and their teacher for their dedication, creativity, and contribution to making this seventh edition of the PCJ a success.
