Monaco’s 12th annual charity fundraiser, held on Friday, October 25, gathered 50 philanthropists who contributed 600,000 euros to protect critical seagrass meadows in Greece and the Mediterranean. Hosted by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the event was attended by HSH Prince Albert and WWF International President Dr. Adil Najam. Together, they emphasised the environmental importance of seagrass habitats, which sustain diverse marine species and play a role in carbon absorption.
In his speech, Sir Stelios thanked supporters, underscoring that the funds raised would significantly aid WWF projects dedicated to safeguarding these marine ecosystems. Prince Albert and Dr. Najam echoed this sentiment, highlighting the fundraiser’s essential role in advancing conservation efforts across the Mediterranean.
The 600,000 euro total raised reflects the growing commitment to oceanic preservation among Monaco’s philanthropic community and their dedication to creating a meaningful impact in regional marine protection.
