A phenomenal large-format musical comedy with 240 artists together on the stage will for the next four evenings – starting on December 20, delight audiences at the Salle des Princes of the Grimaldi Forum.
L’Enfant et les Sortilèges was created by Ravel between 1919 and 1925 in Monte-Carlo to a libretto by Colette, who wrote it in eight days and whose 150th anniversary is being celebrated this year. The Child and the Spells: A Lyric Fantasy in Two Parts was also one of the favourite works of HSH Prince Rainier III.
The new creation by Jean Christophe Maillot will bring together 50 dancers, 90 musicians, 100 choir singers on the stage almost 100 years after L’Enfant et les Sortilèges was performed in the world’s premiere in Monte-Carlo in 1925.
Before unveiling this extraordinary creation, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will perform La Valse by George Balanchine: a return to the roots for this ballet performed twenty years ago, also very much liked by Prince Rainier III.
