The traditional Ice Rink on Port Hercule will not open this season in order to save on energy, the second consecutive year of closure.

Before the pandemic hit, the Rink, over the Rainier III swimming pool, attracted 35,000 users from December to March.

Despite energy-saving tweaks, the Rink used 237,000 kwh during the 2021 season. The closure will have an impact on ice hockey and curling enthusiasts as well as the general public.

Studies are being conducted into the feasibility of installing a temporary cover over the Rink, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
