AS Monaco have announced the signing of a highly anticipated new goalkeeper on July 15, revealing the signature of RB Salzburg star goalie Philipp Köhn on a five year deal, after parting ways with Alexander Nübel in June.
The Principality side and reigning Austrian Bundesliga champions Salzburg have reached an agreement on the transfer of Köhn, who will represent the ‘Rouge et Blanc’ until 2028. However, the financial terms of the transfer have not yet been disclosed.
Köhn arrives from Austria off the back of two consecutive championship titles. The latter was won at the end of the 2022/23 season, in which he boasted the most clean sheets and the best save percentage, and was subsequently named the league’s goalkeeper of the season. See the new signing in action below:
Köhn was born in Dinslaken, Germany to a German Father and a Swiss Mother, and while he completed his training and earned 11 caps with his birth country’s youth team, the young goalkeeper decided to represent Switzerland on the international level. With the Swiss national team, Köhn participated in his first World Cup in Qatar, and will therefore already have rubbed shoulders with Monaco’s Swiss striker Breel Embolo. Monaco midfielder Mohamed Camara will also be a friendly face, as Camara was Köhn’s teammate at Salzburg before signing for the Principality side last summer.
At just 25 years old, Köhn already has European experience to boot, since he has played in 16 Champions League matches and two Europa League matches, making quite the impression against the likes of Bayern Munich and Chelsea.
