The Embassy of Monaco in Germany held a reception to mark the 18th anniversary of HSH Prince Albert II’s accession. The event took place in the prestigious Waldorf Astoria hotel in Berlin on Friday, July 7.

HE Mr Lorenzo Ravano, together with his wife and diplomats from the Embassy, welcomed over 150 guests and friends of the Principality, including representatives of the German Federal Foreign Office, the Apostolic Nuncio (Dean of the Diplomatic Corps), and many ambassadors accredited to the German capital. Also in attendance were Monaco’s honorary consuls in Germany and Poland, one of the two co-presidents of the Monaco International German Club, as well as various figures from the worlds of business, finance, culture and from German nobility, including Princess Theophana of Saxony, Prince Harald of Hohenzollern and Prince Alexander of Schleswig-Holstein.

In his speech, the Ambassador highlighted the importance of 2023 for the Principality, with commemorations to mark the centenary of Prince Rainier III’s birth and the 30th anniversary of Monaco’s accession to the United Nations (UN). He also recalled the personal commitment of HSH the Sovereign Prince and his Foundation to protecting the environment and the fight against climate change, and the honours awarded to HSH the Prince in Bremen and Düsseldorf in 2022 for the work of his foundation.

HE Mr Lorenzo Ravano also recalled the close links between Monaco and Germany, marked by the energy of the German community in the Principality, the significant trade relations between the two states, as well as existing opportunities to deepen cooperation in several spheres, including the scheduled inauguration in 2024 of a Monaco section at the famous Miniatur Wunderland museum in Hamburg.

The reception was preceded by a working meeting with Monaco’s honorary consuls in Germany and Poland, as well as Mr Jérôme Poulalier on behalf of the Tourist and Convention Authority, and Mr Sebastian Drechsler, CEO of Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg.
