With more than 3,000 blood donations having to come from France each year, the Monaco health authorities are anxious to recruit more donors from within the Principality.
Last year only 1,975 donations were made in Monaco, against a need for 5,000.
Minister of Health Christophe Robino has called on residents to act altruistically and come forward to offer blood. He pointed out that France itself is not self-sufficient in terms of blood supplies.
“Blood is life,” the former practising doctor told local French-language daily Monaco Matin.
Monaco operates a ‘Bloodmobile’ that can collect donors from home or work. Donations can be given at CHPG on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 08:00 and 14:00 or on Wednesdays between 10:00 and 15:00. Appointments can be made by calling 97 98 98 20 or by visiting www.monaco-sante.com. Donors must be in good health and aged between 18 and 70.
