Much of Monaco was caught in near-gridlock on Tuesday, even outside rush hour.

It is not unusual for the first week of the Rolex Masters tennis tournament to mark the start of heavy summer traffic, but this year matters have been made much worse by repair work on one of the most important tunnels.

The Dorsale tunnel has been closed in part in both directions for maintenance making access to Monaco from the Moyenne Corniche particularly difficult. The Albert II tunnel was closed at about 10:00 on Tuesday in order to avoid a build-up of vehicles within the tunnel.

Many social media users have aired their frustration at the scheduling of important maintenance work during the tennis tournament. Their torment could last until 23:00 on Friday, April 15. However, NEWS.MC understands that an emergency meeting has been scheduled on Wednesday to discuss postponing the rest of the ongoing work until after the end of the tennis.
