Recently taken-over English Premier League side Newcastle United have held talks with AS Monaco over the signing of the Principality side’s star defender Benoit Badiashile for the princely sum of 35 million pounds, according to reports.

Through a strong break-out performance in red and white, the 20 year-old centre-back has already attracted the attention of other EPL teams, namely Manchester United and West Ham. Badiashile’s strong form has also landed him a place on the France U-21 international team.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle – mired in controversy after being taken over by a Saudi outfit – have struggled to agree on terms with Ligue 1 side Lille for defender Sven Botman, and have increased their efforts with regard to signing Badiashile as a result.

With a price tag of 35 million pounds, Badiashile is not exactly a bargain, but if any club can afford to splash the cash on a shiny new defensive line, it’s Newcastle.

The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia purchased an 80 percent stake in Newcastle United in 2021, and the ‘Magpies’ now look to strengthen their side, or risk facing relegation from the top flight of British football.
