On the blackest day yet in terms of new cases since the start of the coronavirus pandemic almost two years ago, 63 Monaco residents tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, December 15. The previous daily high was 48 new cases, last Friday, December 11.

Thirty-four residents were declared fully-recovered on Wednesday. Most of the new cases are mild, and the number of residents with mild symptoms recovering at home has breached the 200 figure for the first time, at 203.

Of 11 patients being treated for coronavirus at Princess Grace Hospital, seven are residents and one resident is among four patients in intensive care.

The new figure is likely to make a tightening of coronavirus regulations in the near future more likely than any hoped-for relaxation.
