Through Meteo France, Nice Airport has acquired more accurate equipment to help detect sudden changes in wind direction and the problem of wind shear.
Nice Airport is particularly susceptible to wind direction changes due to its position next to the sea and the nearby hills and mountains.
Previously used equipment was not very efficient during dry hot spells, a frequent occurrence in Nice. The technology has been provided by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation of Japan and will help avoid the disruption and extra expense of runway go-arounds.
