Max Verstappen soared to his first ever Monaco Grand Prix victory on Sunday, May 23 before delivering some words for his rival, Lewis Hamilton. The Dutchman said that “actions speak louder than words,” while Hamilton, along with Mercedes suffered throughout the race.

Verstappen concluded his press conference by stating that “We as a team so far made the smallest mistakes. That’s why we are ahead.” Indeed, Verstappen and Red Bull are both now provisionally first in the World Drivers and Constructors Championships.

Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner also got involved by suggesting that Verstappen had gotten under his skin.

Defending World Champion Hamilton was not having any of it, as he crossed the line in seventh place. Speaking on the subject, Hamilton said “I am not playing mind games. It’s interesting what Christian comes out with but I couldn’t care less. They did a great job this weekend and that’s that… There are 17 races to go. I’m not going to say more. It’s childish when you start getting into a war of words.”

The on track battle between Verstappen and Hamilton will continue on the Baku City Circuit on Sunday, June 6 in the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
