The elected National Council has called for France to revoke coronavirus travel restrictions for Monaco residents.

In a statement on Tuesday evening, Monaco’s National Council called for the Principality not to be covered by the change of rules governing access to French territory, as announced on January 30.

Pointing out that Monaco has not imposed travel restrictions on French nationals, the Council said that the inclusion of Monaco was “incomprehensible” given the close geographic links between France and Monaco.

“Our territories are linked by a true community of destiny,” the Council said.

The Council has called on Monaco’s Minister of State to demand an exception from the general rules for residents of the Principality travelling through France, which include the requirement for a recent negative PCR test for coronavirus and an “essential need” for travel, beyond a 30-kilometre radius of the Principality.
