The diocese of St. Paul’s Anglican Church has announced the passing of Mrs Gillian Johnson Flint. She died peacefully at home on Thursday evening with her husband, Stuart at her side.
“Gillian was a regular member of the congregation at St Paul’s and a valued member of the Church choir. She was a talented artist and a longstanding member of the Monte Carlo Art Group. She will be greatly missed,” the Church said.
“Please remember Gillian’s husband Stuart in your prayers, as well as her children James and Katherine, her grandchildren and great grand children.”
Gillian’s funeral will be held at St Paul’s at 9.30 on Thursday, January 14.
Editor’s note: Gillian was a quiet stalwart of the British community in Monaco. She will be remembered as kindness itself. Gillian was always extremely thoughtful of others – always positive and supportive.

I have known Gillian near all our lives since we were at Primary school and worshipped at St Giles together. I was Stuart’s best man at their wedding and he at Penny and mine. We have not seen each other as much since Gillian moved to Monaco to be near James and her grandchildren, now grown up. But we communicated often by email and met up when she was over in England. Our prayers and love to you, rest in peace gentle soul.
I am so saddened and shocked to hear Gillian has passed away. And so glad to know Stuart was with her.
Gillian was the first and kindest person to welcome me to my new Art College life after leaving a rather protected boarding school. For ‘safe-keeping’ my mother had found me lodgings with an eccentric Anglican Vicar and his family. They really only had one room big enough for students and this was taken. I liked them so much that my mother and I begged for the box room across the landing.
I remember them telling me about Gilliam who was in her final year at the Art College and that I shouldn’t bother her too much! She worked very hard in the evenings. But with Gillian’s kindness it turned out that I spent most of the evenings in her room, watching her beautiful illustrations come into being, and so began a lifelong friendship.
Gillian got engaged to Stuart and a few years later Stuart designed wedding rings for Adrian, my husband, and me.
Down the years I have always felt such warmth and admiration for my ‘older Art College sister.’ I shall miss thinking of her in Monte Carlo where I used to spend holidays with my father and my new French stepmother. They attended St Paul’s Church. But I know Gillian and Stuart will always be in our hearts and will bring a smile to our faces as we think of our times together in Peckham.
We send our loving thoughts and prayers. Kitty and Adrian Lloyd-Lawrence.
