Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance, told leaders of Monaco’s tourism sector on Friday that the Government does not advise them to cancel planned events in the light of the coronavirus outbreak.

“We do not recommend cancellation or postponement of professional events and other congresses, beyond decisions that might be made by a private organiser. But clearly they must not invite participants from risk areas to the Principality,” he said.

The minister and professionals agreed that tourists seem to be taking a wait-and-see attitude, with a small number of cancellations offset by last-minute bookings. There was also consensus that the situation could become more worrying beyond the end of March.

Didier Gamerdinger, Minister of Social Affairs and Health, said that there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Monaco, 120 people had called for medical advice, and medical professionals are in place over the weekend to deal with any further suspected infections.
