A Christmas treat for anyone who loves the music of Handel, his Messiah will be performed on Saturday, December 24, at St. Paul’s Church in Monaco, 22 ave. Grande Bretagne.
The concert, conducted by Errol Girdlestone, begins at 19:00. Solo singers: Elenor Bowers-Jolley (soprano), Laura Margaret Smith (alto), Gavan Ring (tenor), Simon Bailey (bass).
First performed in 1742, the Messiah (Messiah, HWV 56) is an oratorio for choir, vocal soloists and orchestra that remains one of the greatest musical masterpieces of all time. The work contains many well-known melodies, breathtaking choruses, dramatic tunes and emotional intensity that still impress to this day, more than 250 years after the composer’s death.
This performance has become very famous in the region, and is one of the essential dates of the calendar of the Principality in the weeks just before Christmas.
