Eight hundred people attended the 71st Monaco Red Cross Gala in the Hall of Stars at the Summer Sporting on Friday, July 25. The evening was presided over by TSH Prince Albert and Princess Charlene. Each attendee had paid 1,200 euros a ticket to help support the charitable work of the Red Cross, both locally and abroad.
The floral decorations were almost overwhelming, representing the famous Great Wave by Japanese artist Hokusai. A total of 25,000 blooms had been arranged for the evening, involving days of hectic and secretive work by SBM staff working behind drawn curtains.
The guest list included many figures from the world of entertainment, including John Legend, from the world of sport, Tony Parker, the basketball player, and many business people and figures from international commerce, such as Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, the outgoing Secretary General of OPEC.
The Monaco Red Cross has many projects worldwide and is currently particularly involved in water, health and education initiatives in west African countries, including Burkina Faso.
