Monaco’s summer auction sales are gaining in their success each year, and the weekend of July 19/20/21 saw a number of sales records being broken.

The Parisian auction house Artcurial sold ten individual lots for prices in excess of 100,000 euros, for a total of more than 11 million euros, mainly for watches and jewellery, but also sculptures.

Several items provoked fierce bidding contests, such as an 8.5 carat ring set that sold for more than 109,000 euros, more than 10 times its estimate.

Meanwhile, over at the Cafe de Paris the local Monte-Carlo Auction House (HVMC) sold several impressionist and modern paintings, including a drawing by Picasso and a pastel by Degas, Three Dancers in Bust, which sold for 300,000 euros, as well as many other collectible items.

Certainly, the double-headed auction presages many more successful summer auction seasons in Monaco.
