Starting October 1, 2026, all new mobile phone numbers issued in Monaco will carry the Principality’s own international dialling code, +377, exclusively, marking a further step toward full sovereignty over the country’s mobile numbering system.
The change follows new bilateral protocols agreed between the Prince’s Government’s Directorate of Digital Platforms and Resources and France’s telecommunications regulator, Arcep.
Monaco’s mobile numbering has been closely tied to France’s own system since mobile phone services first launched in the Principality in 1993, when early mobile lines were assigned ten-digit numbers beginning with 06, under the French dialling code. Monaco secured its own international dialling code, +377, in 1996, a significant milestone in the country’s telecommunications independence, but mobile number ranges allocated to Monaco Telecom have continued to operate under both +33 and +377 ever since, a legacy of that earlier shared system.
From October 1, any new individual or business customer signing up for a Monaco Telecom mobile plan will be issued an eight-digit number preceded by the +377 code, formatted as +377 377 xx xxx. Officials say the change will help strengthen the security of electronic communications in Monaco, particularly in tackling number spoofing and various forms of phone-based fraud.
Existing Monaco Telecom customers with a mobile number beginning 06 will keep their current number unchanged, with no action required on their part.
