Art moved from the gallery to the dinner table at Villa Paloma, where the work of Romanian surrealist Victor Brauner inspired a special culinary experience in the museum’s gardens…
Chef Soline Bredin created a menu entitled Le tout dans le tout, Everything in Everything, for 40 guests on September the 22nd, who first took part in a guided tour of the exhibition before discovering how Brauner’s artistic world could be translated into flavours, aromas and textures.
The evening centred on a shared fascination with alchemy. Brauner frequently explored the subject in his work, whilst Bredin’s culinary practice includes fermentation, providing the starting point for an unusual dialogue between art and gastronomy.
Bredin extended the concept beyond the food itself, creating sculptural pieces in which her dishes were presented. Citrus flavours and dark chocolate were among the ingredients used to evoke the colours, contrasts and occasional bitterness found within Brauner’s work.
Guests praised the experience for its originality, with the gardens providing a suitably atmospheric setting for the encounter between surrealism and cuisine.
Those who missed the dinner can still explore Brauner’s world through The Magical Adventure, which remains open at Villa Paloma until January 3.
