Monaco will welcome a new addition to its sporting calendar on Wednesday, August 5, when the inaugural Monaco Athletics Festival takes place on Quai Albert Ier from 18:00…
Organised by the Monégasque Athletics Federation, the urban high jump competition joins the international What Gravity Tour, founded by Olympic champion Mutaz Barshim.
The event marks the latest stage in a circuit that began in Doha in 2024 as the What Gravity Challenge before expanding into the What Gravity Tour with its first European stop in Germany last year. Barshim selected Monaco as the newest host city, building on the Principality’s experience of staging athletics events on Port Hercule during the 2018 and 2019 Herculis EBS meetings.
A world-class field has been assembled for the festival, with Barshim competing alongside Jamaica’s Commonwealth Games champion Romaine Beckford and American high jumper Tyus Wilson, a NACAC champion, NCAA champion and two-time United States champion with a personal best of 2.29 metres.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity for emerging athletes to compete alongside established stars, with 20-year-old French Elite champion Eljiah Pasquier joining the field.
By bringing elite high jumping into the heart of Port Hercule, organisers hope the Monaco Athletics Festival will become a permanent fixture of the Principality’s summer sporting programme while introducing the sport to new audiences in a spectacular waterfront setting.
