AS Monaco have announced the signing of 23-year-old French forward Matthis Abline from FC Nantes, with the striker putting pen to paper on a five-year deal running until June 2031.
Abline began his football journey at FC2L Laurentais Landemont before moving through USJA Carquefou in 2014 and then the Pôle Espoirs in Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire for two years. In 2018, he joined the Stade Rennais academy, where he progressed through the youth ranks, featuring in the UEFA Youth League before eventually breaking into the first team. He made his Ligue 1 debut for Rennes on April 25, 2021, against Dijon FCO, and scored his first senior goal that August in a Europa Conference League play-off against Norwegian side Rosenborg.
Between January 2022 and January 2023, Abline went out on loan twice to further his development, first with Le Havre in Ligue 2, then with AJ Auxerre in Ligue 1, contributing 14 goal involvements (nine goals, five assists) across 38 appearances during that spell. From August 2023, he moved to FC Nantes, initially on loan for the 2023-2024 season, scoring on his first start for the Canaris, before the move was made permanent in the summer of 2024 following a strong run of form. Born in Angers, Abline has predominantly played on the left flank and through the middle during his time in the Loire-Atlantique region.
His form continued to build during the 2024-2025 season, in which he finished as FC Nantes’ top scorer with 11 goals and two assists, form that also earned him a place in France’s Under-21 squad for the 2025 European Championship, where the Bleuets reached the semi-finals alongside current Monaco players Christian Mawissa and Soungoutou Magassa.
Abline followed that with another productive season in Ligue 1 in 2025-2026, recording eight goals and seven assists in 35 appearances, form that has now led the 1.82m striker to Monaco, where he joins the club’s front line ahead of the new season.
