The Yacht Club de Monaco has unveiled a new wave of sustainability initiatives, reinforcing its ambition to position the Principality at the forefront of environmentally responsible yachting…
Announced on July 15, the programme builds on the Club’s Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting vision under the leadership of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II. Rather than focusing solely on greener yachts, the initiative recognises that marinas and supporting infrastructure must evolve alongside them.
“Yachting is an ecosystem, and if you want to have a smart boat, you also need to have a smart marina,” said Bernard d’Alessandri, General Secretary and Managing Director of the Yacht Club de Monaco. “The entire ecosystem has to be aligned.”
The Club has already implemented a series of practical measures, including upgraded solar panels, seawater-powered thalassothermia cooling, water recycling systems, LED lighting and electric boat charging stations. Its marina also features wastewater recovery, biodiversity-enhancing Biohuts, seabed-friendly dynamic moorings and a robotic system that collects floating waste.
The electric charging infrastructure, operated by Aqua superPower, supports both the Club’s own fleet and members’ electric tenders, reflecting the growing shift towards zero-emission boating.
Innovation extends beyond the marina. Italian firm ESA NanoTech has introduced graphene-based energy-saving technologies throughout the clubhouse, while eco-boat builder Solandor is planning to establish its first Eco Lounge in Monaco.
The Yacht Club’s sustainability drive will continue in September when it hosts the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous 2026, bringing together industry leaders, innovators, investors and architects to explore the next generation of environmentally responsible marina development.
