The vibrant energy of 1980s America has arrived in the Principality as Opera Gallery’s annual Monaco Masters Show explores one of the most influential decades in contemporary art…
Running until August 31 in Monaco’s Golden Square, the exhibition, American 80s: From Warhol to Basquiat, celebrates a period when art, music, fashion and popular culture collided to redefine the visual landscape.
The exhibition features works by some of the era’s most iconic artists, including Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, George Condo and Frank Stella. Together, their creations capture the bold colours, experimental spirit and creative freedom that made New York the epicentre of the international art world during the decade.
Among the highlights are Warhol’s celebrated portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and a rare Basquiat work painted on wood, whose natural irregularities add to its distinctive character. Gallery representatives say the exhibition reflects the optimism, energy and artistic audacity that defined the era, when boundaries between high art, media and identity were continually challenged.
The Monaco Masters Show invites visitors to immerse themselves in a decade remembered for its fearless creativity and cultural innovation. The exhibition remains open throughout the summer, offering art lovers the chance to experience masterpieces from one of the most dynamic periods in modern American art until August 31.
