Two of the Yacht Club de Monaco’s most celebrated classic yachts, Tuiga and Viola, have reunited in New York to take part in a prestigious sailing programme marking the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence…

After crossing the Atlantic aboard cargo ships, the William Fife-designed yachts have been prepared for a summer of regattas and ceremonial events celebrating maritime heritage and the enduring friendship between Monaco and the United States. The campaign also reflects the long-standing relationship between the Yacht Club de Monaco and America, fostered through decades of sailing competition and strengthened under the presidency of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II.

The programme begins with the Monaco Challenge Cup, hosted by the Manhattan Yacht Club from June 26 to 29, before the yachts join the Sail4th 250 celebrations in New York Harbour from July 3 to 8. Around 40 tall ships representing 21 nations are expected to participate, creating one of the largest maritime gatherings in recent years.

Among the highlights will be a ceremonial procession past the Statue of Liberty, where Tuiga and Viola will escort the French Navy’s historic schooner La Belle Poule. The tour will then continue to some of America’s most renowned sailing destinations, including Newport and Nantucket, showcasing Monaco’s rich maritime heritage throughout the summer.
