The aftermath of one of Monaco’s most shocking criminal cases continues to unfold, as the parents of the young woman who survived a brutal knife attack in 2022 have publicly condemned remarks made by the lawyer representing convicted attacker Jean-Charles Mulini…

As reported by Monaco Matin, the reaction follows the defence’s decision to appeal Mulini’s 19-year prison sentence to the Court of Revision. As News.MC reported previously, Mulini was convicted in May of attempted homicide after stabbing his former partner 34 times while she slept. During a recent interview explaining the appeal, defence lawyer Régis Bergonzi suggested that legal questions remained because his client had “the opportunity to kill his victim and did not follow through”.

The victim’s parents strongly rejected that argument, describing the comments as “outrageous and false”. They insist the evidence presented during the trial showed that their daughter survived solely through her own determination after suffering multiple life-threatening injuries.

According to Monaco Matin, the family has now written to the President of the Monaco Bar Association, National Council President Thomas Brezzo, and a neighbour who they believe failed to report previous incidents of violence. The case continues to attract significant public attention in Monaco, with the appeal process now set to move the long-running legal battle into a new phase.
