Diplomacy was very much in motion in Monaco this week as His Serene Highness Prince Albert II received a new group of ambassadors presenting their letters of credence to the Principality…

These ceremonies, held at the Prince’s Palace, remain one of the most important moments in Monaco’s diplomatic life, formally authorising foreign envoys to represent their nations before the Sovereign and the Monegasque state.

In recent days, the HSH Prince Albert II welcomed ambassadors from a wide range of countries and institutions, reflecting the breadth of Monaco’s international relationships. Representatives from the Philippines, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta were among those accredited, joining diplomats from Guatemala, India, the United Kingdom and Liberia who also presented their credentials earlier in the week. Henri-Paul Rousseau, Delegate General of Quebec, likewise presented his letters of nomination to the Sovereign.

For Monaco, a country of just over two square kilometres, diplomatic engagement plays an outsized role in its global presence. The accreditation of ambassadors symbolises not only the formal ties between states but also the spirit of cooperation that underpins Monaco’s international outlook.

Beyond the ceremonial protocol, the meetings provide an opportunity for the Sovereign to exchange views with new envoys on shared priorities ranging from economic cooperation and environmental protection to cultural exchange and humanitarian initiatives. These conversations reinforce the Principality’s reputation as an active and trusted diplomatic partner.

With more than 150 diplomatic missions accredited to Monaco around the world, such encounters are a reminder that the Principality remains deeply connected to international affairs, proof that even the smallest states can play a significant role on the global stage.
