The German International Club of Monaco hosted a reception at the Hotel Hermitage’s Salon Excelsior to welcome H.E. Stephan Steinlein, Ambassador of Germany to France and Monaco, along with his wife, Françoise Doussin-Steinlein. The event, held on Tuesday, November 18, was attended by club members, friends, and representatives of the diplomatic corps.

Co-President of the club, Patrick Wetzel, and his wife Yu-Ra Wetzel welcomed guests, including H.E. Lorenzo Ravano, Monaco’s Ambassador to Berlin, the Honorary Consuls of Monaco in Hamburg and Potsdam, and the Honorary Consul of Germany in Monaco, Timm Bergold. Also present was Christiane Amiel, Deputy Mayor of Nice.

In his remarks, Wetzel highlighted Ambassador Steinlein’s distinguished career, noting that he is the only diplomat to serve twice as German Ambassador to Paris: first as East Germany’s final envoy following the fall of the Berlin Wall, and now representing the reunified Federal Republic of Germany. Steinlein also acknowledged his new role as ambassador to Monaco, describing it as a particular honour.

The reception also recognised Klaus Schormann, a long-time member of the German Club and former president of the International Union of Modern Pentathlon, whose headquarters are in Monaco. Schormann was recently awarded the Order and Medal of Saint Charles by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II in recognition of his service.

The event reinforced the bonds within Monaco’s German and German-speaking community, combining formal recognition with a relaxed and elegant atmosphere.
