A new chapter in legal education for the Principality has begun…
This week, a landmark partnership was formalised between the Monaco Government and the prestigious University of Paris-Panthéon-Assas, enabling the institution to offer the Inter-University Diploma in Monegasque Law for the first time. The programme, already taught at the University of Nice Côte d’Azur and formerly at Aix-Marseille, will now benefit from the academic excellence and international reach of one of France’s most renowned law faculties.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Samuel Vuelta-Simon, Monaco’s Secretary of State for Justice, and Stéphane Braconnier, President of Paris-Panthéon-Assas University. For Mr. Braconnier, the partnership represents both the continuation of long-standing ties with Monaco and the beginning of a new phase in supporting the training of future legal experts. He emphasised that Monegasque law, while historically influenced by French law, has evolved into a distinctly singular and increasingly complex system—one that merits specialised academic study.
The diploma aims to equip students from France, Monaco, and beyond with a deep understanding of the Principality’s legal structures, institutions, and unique judicial traditions. As Mr. Vuelta-Simon explained, the goal is not only to expand knowledge but also to inspire new vocations. By offering young graduates clearer insight into legal careers available in Monaco—whether as magistrates, lawyers, or legal advisors—the programme strengthens the future of the Monegasque legal profession.
Ultimately, this new collaboration reinforces Monaco’s commitment to academic excellence and ensures the next generation of jurists is well-prepared to serve a legal system unlike any other in Europe.
