Monaco put compassion on the menu as the Diocese’s Charity and Solidarity Service joined forces with several local associations to host a special lunch for individuals and families facing hardship on Saturday, November 15. The gathering, organised to mark the 9th World Day of the Poor, ran from midday to 15:00 at the Collège-Lycée François d’Assise Nicolas Barré.
The Société Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, the Hospitalité diocésaine de Lourdes, the Oeuvre de Sœur Marie and the Ordre de Malte all pitched in, proving that when it comes to solidarity, the Principality isn’t afraid to pull out the whole ecumenical toolkit.
Adding a welcome dash of youthful energy, volunteers from the Parish of Saint-Nicolas took charge of serving lunch and keeping spirits high. Their brief: offer not just a hot meal, but a bit of warmth that doesn’t come from a radiator.
Archbishop Dominique-Marie David was on hand to greet attendees and emphasise the need for community support—an understated nod to the reality that not everyone in Monaco is sitting on a yacht with a flute of something bubbly.
The event aimed to provide a moment of dignity and connection for those navigating difficult circumstances, underscoring the core message of the World Day of the Poor: solidarity isn’t a slogan, it’s a practice.
