Monaco’s Boulevard Albert 1er will see significant road closures over the coming days as the Principality prepares to host the Grand Départ of La Vuelta a España, with free bus travel offered across the city throughout the event.
On Friday, August 21, the boulevard will be closed to traffic from 6am to 2pm, allowing crews to install the race’s finish line infrastructure. The closure will also affect regular Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco bus routes, which will be rerouted for the day, with full details available on the company’s website.
The following day, Saturday, August 22, will see a more extensive shutdown. Boulevard Albert 1er will close from 8am, while the entire time trial route will close to traffic from midday, as the opening stage of the race gets underway. Roads are expected to reopen progressively from around 9pm to 9:30pm that evening, with full details on the route and race schedule available at lavueltamonaco.gouv.mc.
To help ease the disruption, all Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco bus lines will be free to use from Friday, August 21, through Sunday, August 23.
The Monegasque government has thanked residents for their understanding and encouraged them to plan their journeys in advance, expressing hope that the community will turn out in force to celebrate the race’s Grand Départ.
