His Serene Highness Prince Albert II attended the Monaco leg of the UIM E1 World Championship over the weekend, spending Saturday, July 18, at the Yacht Club de Monaco alongside Hollywood actor Will Smith and NBA player Kyle Kuzma, both of whom own teams competing in the all-electric powerboat racing series.
The Monaco round marked the fourth of eight stages in this year’s championship and the third time the event has been held in the Principality. It also marked Team Monaco’s home race debut, with the Sovereign attending in his capacity as a representative of the team, which fields pilots Oban Duncan and Maxime Nocher.
Smith, who owns Westbrook Racing by Visit Angola, arrived in Monaco with his team sitting atop the championship standings following back-to-back victories in Lake Como and Dubrovnik, holding a narrow 12-point lead over defending champions Team Brady, owned by NFL legend Tom Brady. Kuzma, who co-owns Sierra Racing Club alongside Belgian footballer Thibaut Courtois, was also present in Monaco to support his team.
Now in its third season, the E1 World Championship remains the world’s first all-electric raceboat series, developed under the Union Internationale Motonautique. Monaco’s continued role as a host venue reflects both the Principality’s century-long motorsport heritage and Prince Albert II’s long-standing commitment to marine sustainability through his Foundation, a theme closely tied to the championship’s broader mission.
