Monaco’s landmark new Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG) reached a defining moment on Monday as HSH Prince Albert II officially handed over the keys to the new building to hospital staff, marking the transition from construction to operational preparation ahead of its opening in January 2027…

The symbolic ceremony, attended by the Sovereign, Minister of State Christophe Mirmand, members of the Government, the President of the National Council, the Mayor and other dignitaries, signals the completion of the first phase of one of the Principality’s largest construction projects. More than a decade in development, the new 10-storey, 40,000-square-metre facility has been designed to meet the demands of modern medicine while providing patients with state-of-the-art care in a contemporary environment.

Although construction of the first phase is now complete, several months of preparation remain before the hospital welcomes its first patients. Teams will install medical equipment, test automated systems, carry out simulated clinical and emergency scenarios, complete specialist cleaning procedures and train staff to ensure every department is fully operational.

The new building will eventually accommodate around 75 percent of CHPG’s activities. Phase two of the redevelopment will see the existing hospital demolished and replaced by a further 48,000-square-metre building, with the entire project expected to be completed around 2033, securing Monaco’s healthcare infrastructure for generations to come.
