The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation will hold a free public event this July to mark World Drowning Prevention Day, bringing water safety awareness to the heart of the Principality’s summer season.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 25, at the Stade Nautique Rainier III, and will feature rescue demonstrations alongside a range of prevention activities designed to raise awareness among families and children. As part of the initiative, the first 100 under-18s to attend will receive free entry to the pool, ensuring the day is both educational and accessible.
The event continues the Foundation’s long-standing focus on drowning prevention and equipping children with the skills to stay safe in and around water, a message with particular resonance in Monaco, where the sea and swimming pools are woven into daily life. The initiative reflects Princess Charlene’s own connection to the cause: a former Olympic swimmer, her advocacy for water safety draws directly on her personal experience and understanding of both the beauty and the risks of water.
Organisers hope the day will help demystify prevention for families, offering practical, hands-on lessons rather than abstract warnings, from recognising the signs of danger to understanding how quickly a safe situation can change. With this year’s event set against the backdrop of Monaco’s swimming pools, beaches and boating culture, the Foundation is positioning water safety not as a seasonal add-on, but as an essential part of life on the coast.
