Monaco’s government has expanded its commitment to sustainable digital practices by launching a second phase of its programme to refurbish and redistribute IT equipment from the Principality’s schools…
Following the successful reuse of computers previously used by secondary school students, the latest initiative focuses on more than 650 laptops and tablets formerly used by teachers. Many of these devices will be professionally refurbished before being redistributed, combining digital transition, environmental responsibility and social inclusion.
A new partnership has been formalised between the Monegasque Government, EVA, a specialist social enterprise dedicated to sustainable IT refurbishment, and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Regional Olympic and Sports Committee (CROS). Under the agreement, 38 percent of the recovered equipment will be donated to disability sports clubs across the region, helping them strengthen administration, improve communication with members and support their activities through reliable digital tools.
The refurbishment work will be carried out by EVA, whose mission includes creating employment opportunities for people facing barriers to the labour market, particularly those with disabilities. Each restored device also helps reduce electronic waste and avoids the environmental impact associated with manufacturing new equipment.
The initiative reflects Monaco’s wider sustainability strategy, demonstrating how responsible resource management, digital innovation and social inclusion can work together to deliver practical environmental and community benefits.
