A large tree came down on a road near Place d’Armes in Monaco this Wednesday afternoon, following stormy weather that swept through the Principality. The fallen tree was blocking the full width of the carriageway and municipal services have cordoned off the area while crews clear the debris. No injuries have been reported at this stage.

The incident comes as AccuWeather has issued a Yellow Warning for Rain-Flood for Monaco, with Keraunos, France’s specialist storm observatory, having flagged a marginal to moderate risk of thunderstorms developing this afternoon along the corridor stretching from the Alps to Corsica, including the French Riviera. The wider Alpes-Maritimes region has also been under an orange heatwave warning from Météo France since June 29, and today’s sudden gusts are consistent with the instability that can build as a heatwave begins to break along the coast.

Residents and road users in the area are advised to avoid the cordoned zone and seek alternative routes until the road has been declared safe. Drivers are asked to watch for debris on nearby roads and follow any diversions put in place by Monaco’s public services.
