Monaco has officially launched the countdown to one of the biggest sporting events of 2026, with just 100 days remaining before La Vuelta begins from the Principality on August 22…

A special ceremony held at Amazónico Monte-Carlo on May the 14th marked the symbolic milestone, bringing together sporting officials, local personalities and cycling representatives ahead of the historic Grand Départ. A countdown clock has now been installed overlooking the Place du Casino from the Jardins des Boulingrins, where residents and visitors can follow the approach of the race start.

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II attended the event alongside Javier Guillén, General Director of La Vuelta, and several leading figures from Monaco’s sporting and institutional community.

The departure of the famous Spanish cycling tour from Monaco is expected to attract significant international attention and further reinforce the Principality’s position as a host destination for major global sporting events.

Organisers described the evening as the beginning of the final stretch before Monaco welcomes riders, teams and fans from around the world for the opening stages of one of cycling’s three Grand Tours.

The event also highlighted the growing links between Monaco and international cycling, with preparations now entering their final phase ahead of the August start.
