The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco is set to shine a fresh light on one of surrealism’s most intriguing figures with a major exhibition dedicated to Romanian-born artist Victor Brauner at Villa Paloma…
Running from July 3, 2026, to January 3, 2027, Victor Brauner, L’Aventure magique explores the extraordinary imagination of an artist whose work remains less familiar to the wider public than many of his surrealist contemporaries. Designed by scenographer Christophe Martin, the exhibition brings together more than 160 paintings, drawings and sculptures spanning Brauner’s career from the 1920s to the 1960s.
The works, drawn from an exceptional private collection based in Monaco, are complemented by ten non-Western art objects once owned by Brauner and generously loaned by the Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole.
Influenced by the Romanian avant-garde, his friendship with André Breton, mythology and esoteric traditions, Brauner developed a deeply personal artistic language filled with symbolism, mystery and fantastical imagery.
Curator Camille Morando said the exhibition aims to introduce a wider audience to the “magical adventure” of an artist whose work ranks among the most distinctive and captivating creations of the twentieth century. The exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to discover the remarkable breadth and originality of Brauner’s visionary universe.
