Pierre-André Chiappori, Monaco’s Minister of Finance and Economy, has completed a six-day official visit to Japan, underlining the Principality’s ambitions to strengthen international partnerships and boost its global economic profile.

While in Tokyo from 16 to 21 April 2025, Chiappori held high-level discussions with Japan’s Vice-Minister of Finance and the Vice-Minister in charge of Financial Services. Talks focused on the global economic outlook and the comparative strengths of both nations. Central to the visit was an ongoing tax agreement between Monaco and Japan, which Chiappori said would ease cross-border investment and the movement of residents. He expressed hope that negotiations would conclude soon.

The Monaco official also met with the Japanese chapter of Columbia University alumni, the French Ambassador to Japan, the University of Tokyo, Crédit Agricole Japan, and the Mitsubishi Research Institute. He presented Monaco’s economic model to the French Chamber of Commerce in Japan, showcasing the Principality’s fiscal stability and international openness.

Travelling to Osaka, Chiappori toured the Expo 2025 site, visiting pavilions from Japan, France, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, San Marino and Mitsubishi. At the Saudi Arabian pavilion, he met representatives of the organising team for Expo 2030, which will be hosted by Riyadh.

Chiappori also spent time at Monaco’s own pavilion, praising the team’s work in promoting the Principality. He met with Japanese guests and partners of the Monaco Tourism and Convention Authority and the French Chamber of Commerce in Osaka during a special reception.

“The World Expo is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Monaco to visitors from all walks of life,” Chiappori remarked. “Thanks to the outstanding work of our team, Monaco’s pavilion is doing just that.”
